After the Buddha attained Mahāparinibbāṇa, on a Vesak Full Moon Poya Day, the Buddha’s sacred body turned into relics, which were divided into eight portions. Later, King Ashoka redistributed the relics of the Buddha and enshrined them in 84,000 stupas. Moreover, we’re introduced to two Suttas; Mahāparinibbāṇa Sutta, as well as about Arahant Maha Kassappa (Kassapa Samyutta, Samyutta Nikaya). By learning the history of these great relics, may everyone have the opportunity to realise the Four Noble Truths, and worship these relics, which will bring enormous merits. Whilst worshipping these relics, we should think that we’re worshipping the Living Buddha. Now, even if we’re living far away we can think of these Powerful Stupas, worship the Supreme Buddha, and gain merit!
